Session Description:

Since the release of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in 2016, Virtual Reality tools have immediately quickly become the “game-changing” accessory for presentations, exploration, reviews, and research in the A/E/C industry.  Increasingly more companies advertise market their expertise in a still developing technology while others, looking for a competitive edge, are augmenting their traditional staffing structures to include experts from gaming and other digital fields.  Is the VR tail starting to wag the A/E/C dog?  Not necessarily… alongside with this excitement have come the everyday traditional business concerns surrounding time constraints, costs, efficacy, alternative technologies, and client needs which constantly refocus the daily uses of VR.  Additionally, human interaction on both sides of the VR headset require evolving ways to communicate virtual experiences where they are engineered to be simultaneously familiar and new.  This presentation will introduce participants to current VR tools and trends while providing some techniques to navigate today’s VR workspace.

Learning Objectives:

·         Participants will become familiar with VR terminology and tools

·         Participants will know current VR trends in the A/E/C industry

·         Participants will understand basic best practices when presenting to clients using VR

·         Participants will be familiar with several workflows for getting various 3D models into VR platforms

AIA Learning Credit CEUs will be offered.
