This session explores advanced 2D documentation strategies in Building Information Modeling (BIM), focusing on detailing and annotation symbol behavior within Revit. Participants will examine the distinctions between detail components and symbols, understand nesting techniques, and analyze how system families manage annotations. The course also addresses scale-dependent symbol placement introduced in Revit 2021, offering insights into how view-specific symbol locations affect documentation accuracy. Through practical examples and discussion, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how annotation tools impact clarity and precision in construction documentation.

Differentiate between detail components and annotation symbols and explain their respective roles in Revit’s 2D documentation workflows.
Demonstrate how symbols can be nested within detail components and system family annotations, and identify limitations in generic annotation family templates.
Analyze the behavior of annotation symbols in various callouts and elevation markers, including how symbols interact with graphic scales and why they do not scale with 3D Geometry.
