AIA Central Virginia’s newest group for Late-Career Professionals (LCPs) aims to fix that!

Our goals are simple:

  • Provide a community of peer connection and support

  • Have real conversations about what matters to us now

  • Help each other thrive - for our own benefit, and the broader community

If you’ve got decades of experience, hard-won perspective, and a lot still to offer – this group is for you!

“In the Beginning” Stories

Let’s get to know each other better this month by sharing our “in the beginning” stories. 

What was the path each of us took that led us to become professionals in the building industry—engineers, trade representatives, architects, contractors, etc...? 

We had a lively, freewheeling discussion ranging from introductions, current work, and future career goals to ideas for future LCP meetings. AI’s current and future impact on architectural practice was of particular interest. Rob Winstead, FAIA highly recommended a book by UVA professor Allison Pugh, The Last Human Job: Seeing Each Other in an Age of Automation. While not specifically about architecture, it explores the critical importance of human connections in our work. Additionally, the creation of a database of volunteer projects and/or a community bulletin board was suggested for architects (retired or not) looking for public service opportunities.
