Architectural Site Tour: Kindlewood Phase 2 (Formerly Friendship Court)
Join us for an architect-led tour of Kindlewood, Charlottesville’s landmark multi-phased affordable housing redevelopment! >> Please RSVP on our Google Calendar here.
Designed by Grimm + Parker Architects, this ambitious project serves as a premier regional model for Zero-Displacement community transformation, high-density urban planning, and cutting-edge sustainable design.
During this site walk, we will explore:
Zero-Displacement Master Planning: How the multi-phase framework successfully introduces 450 mixed-income units and community assets while keeping existing residents safely housed on-site.
Phases 2 High-Performance Goals (includes Community Resource Center, 3 townhome buildings, and one multifamily residential podium building): A technical deep dive into the building envelopes and systems driving toward Enterprise Green Communities standards, and DOE Zero Energy Ready Home status.
Resilient Infrastructure: On-site integration of solar net metering, EV charging readiness, and localized resident amenity spaces.
Whether you are interested in innovative affordable housing policy, complex phased construction management, or forward-thinking building science, this tour offers a firsthand look at how thoughtful architecture builds community equity.
